Spalted Beech Bowl

A striking small bowl in spalted beech with burn line decoration.  Standing 3" tall and 4 and a half inches wide it is deceptively capacious.  Having said that I could imagine it being positioned for maximum admiration and nothing more.
 
Spalting is a natural process, whereby competing fungi create a stunning alteration of colours and introduce the characteristic black lines.  While it can be re-created artificially it is notoriously difficult to predict and so spalted wood is prized by woodworkers alike.
